Welcome to our Second Annual STISD Chess Tournament hosted at The Science Academy by the SciTech and MedHigh chess clubs!

We look forward to our students from across the district competing in a two section individual tournament. Students will be playing in a 5 round event, either in the USCF rated section, or in the non-rated section, with a time control of Game/30 or Game 25/d5 for clocks with the time delay feature. Since the tournament is in February 2019, I have used the February 2019 ratings, or in the case of students who have played in their first tournament recently and are listed as unrated, I used the preliminary rating from their last event.

This event will be directed under USCF rules (Click Here for a Basic Rules Summary), with the goal of promoting chess throughout our district by providing a chance to play and learn from tournament conditions. Trophies for the top ten in each section and ribbons for 11th to 20th places will be given.

There are no vendors for food this year on site. Individual schools are responsible for snacks and meals from their sponsoring campuses. Lunch is on your own. There will be about a one hour break between rounds 2 and 3 approxiamately from 11:30am to 12:30pm.

The tournament schedule is tenatively as follows:

We look forward to a chess celebration throughout our district when we gather on Saturday, February 2nd! See you here!
